Our goal
is to place rescued animals into loving homes and at the same
time help you find a ‘Forever Friend’ that best
suits your household and your lifestyle. Adopting a shelter
animal gives you an opportunity to provide a needy pet with
a loving stable environment, something that many of these little
ones have never known.
Before you commit to adoption, please contemplate the following:
Why
do you want a pet? Many people fail to ask themselves
this simple question before they get a pet. Adopting a
pet just because it's "the thing to do" or because
the kids have been pining for a puppy usually ends up
being a big mistake. Don't forget that your new family
member may be with you 10, 15, even 20 years.
Do you have time for a pet? Dogs, cats, cannot
be ignored just because you're tired or busy. They require
food, water, exercise, care, and your love every day of
every year. Many animals end up in shelters because their
owners didn't realize how much time it took to care for
them.
Can you afford a pet? The costs of pet ownership
can be quite high. Licenses, training classes, veterinary
care, grooming, toys, food, and other expenses add up
quickly.
Are you prepared
to deal with special problems that a pet can cause? Flea
infestations, scratched-up furniture, accidents from animals
that aren't yet housetrained, and unexpected medical emergencies
are unfortunate but common aspects of pet ownership.
Can you have
a pet where you live? Many rental
communities don't allow pets, and others have restrictions.
Make sure you know what they are before you bring a companion
animal home. 1atatime Rescue will require all renters
to provide a note from their Landlord giving permission
for there to be a pet in the residence.
Is it a good
time for you to adopt a pet?If
you have kids under six years old, for instance, you might
consider waiting a few years before you adopt a companion.
Pet ownership requires children who are mature enough
to be responsible. If you're a student, work long hours,
or travel frequently as part of your work, this might
not be a good time to invite a pet into the home.
Are
your living arrangements suitable for the animal you have
in mind? Animal size is not the only variable to
think about here. For example, some small dogs such as
terriers are very active—they require daily exercise
to be calm, and some may bark at noises. On the other
hand, some big dogs are laid back and quite content to
lie on a couch all day. Before adopting a pet, do some
research.
We require
that all applicants follow our adoption process. We do
recognize that the Adoption Form may seem very detailed
but rest assured all of the information is crucial.
We look to find the best fit for our animals. As such,
we Do Not adopt animals on a "first come, first served"
basis. *Please complete the adoption application in its
entirety in order to be considered.
Processing time varies dependant upon many considerations
such as; completion of veterinary treatments, transport,
and temperament testing. We encourage all applicants to
refer to the animal’s bio for updates on its status.
All applications are carefully reviewed by one of our
Adoption Counselors. Please note: in some cases we may
email or call you for further information or clarification.
We will be contacting your previous and/or current veterinarians.
We welcome any questions you may have and encourage you
to include them with your application. 1atatime Rescue
also has a voice messaging system should you need to speak
with one of our representatives. Please allow us at least
24 hours to return your call.

THE NEXT STEP:
If we believe your home is a match for one of our animals a volunteer will contact you to schedule
a home visit. All residents of the home and your current
pets must be present and available during this visit.
Our volunteer will want you to show them your potential
pet's living quarters (for both daytime and nighttime
hours) and your yard, if applicable.
We will also make arrangements for you to meet the animal
you are applying for. Due to the fact that we do not have
a shelter facility, all of our animals reside in foster
homes. As such, we are unable to arrange for all applicants
to meet our animals. We reserve meetings for those applicants
that we believe will be a good fit for the animal. If
your application is not chosen, we invite you to look
over our list of adoptable pets and possibly consider
offering another needy animal a forever home.
COMING HOME!
When it comes time to finalize the adoption, you will be asked to
complete an Adoption Contract, which confirms your careful
consideration of and adherence to those things which are
necessary to ensure a safe and loving life for your pet.
It also binds you to an agreement that you will return
the pet to 1atatime Rescue if you are unable to keep it
for ANY reason. You will receive a copy of all available
medical records for your new ‘Forever Friend’.
As well, compliments of Shelter Care, you will receive
30 days of Pet Insurance. The adoption fee will also be
collected at the time of placement. This fee is used to
defray the costs of such things as veterinary care, and
transportation and ensures that we can continue to save
animals that are out of time.
Our adoption fees:
Dogs: $275.00 - $375.00
Cats: $75.00 - $125.00
Your adoption fee includes; -Health Certificate and cost of transport to
Vancouver
-Microchip/Tattoo
-Spay/Neuter
-Heartworm testing/ treatment
-De-worming/ Flea treatment
